L’OBSERVABLE is a performing arts company devoted to visual and musical creation, founded in 2023 in the Ossau Valley, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Its aim is to create and tour live performance projects shaped by environmental and scientific themes.
Its members’ stage practices combine digital and traditional techniques: animation, drawing, music, storytelling and alternative photographic processes.
L’OBSERVABLE is especially committed to bringing live drawing performance into its work. Above all, the gestures of drawing and of animation lie at the heart of its stage devices. L’OBSERVABLE is interested in making the making itself visible on stage – gestures “in progress” that coexist with the fiction. The stage is thus conceived as a laboratory that presents itself as such, and within which the experiment takes place.
L’OBSERVABLE also develops arts and cultural education projects linked to the shows on tour, while seeking to put the emphasis on projects tied to works in progress.
Based in a Pyrenean valley, the members of L’OBSERVABLE set out to borrow from scientists their polymorphous vision of time, from nomadic peoples their porous understanding of space, and from Pyrenean mountaineers the contemplation of the familiar as a journey.
In this spirit, L’OBSERVABLE lays claim to the notion of the slow image in its creative approach.
Since its founding, L’OBSERVABLE has taken over the touring of the live-drawn, animated concert VERSANT VIVANT, and supports the production of the forthcoming works of Émilie Tarascou and Simon Kansara.
